At least 5 persons including women were injured by the opponents in a village arbitration meeting held in a school premises in Ulubunia (village) within Sonailtala Union Parishad under Mongla Upazila in Bagerhat district on Saturday morning in presence of the local UP member, according to a delayed report received here. Not only that but also the injured persons were admitted to the local Upazila Health Complex for their treatment after long 7/8 hours of the incident due to the obstructions created by the opponents.
It is learnt from the locals that very recently taking the opportunity of the absence of the family-members of one Hirak Hawladar of the village from his house Rasel, a young drug addicted neigbour entered the house and looted valuables including cash Taka.
After returning home in the evening the house owner came to know every thing and disclosed the matter the neighbours.
As a result, drug addicted Rasel and his relatives became furious and beat Hirak Howladar’s old wife Najma Begum. Following the incident the two rival groups of the local Awami League were involved in the matter.
In this connection local UP member Halim Gazi arranged an arbitration meeting in the local school premises on Saturday morning in order dispose of the matter.
But Rasel and his associates attacked the family-members of Hirak Hawladar and beat them mercilessly (for the 2nd time) in the arbitration meeting in presence of the UP member. As a result, wife Najma Begum (50), Fatema Begum (45), school going daughter Sadia (15), Moyna (27) and son-in-law Sekendar Sardar (27) were seriously injured. In this connection Hirak Hawladar lodged a written complaint with Mongla PS in the following (Sunday) morning.
The complainant told the newsmen that he and other members of his family cannot return home for fear of the opponents. On the other hand, the attackers are trying to make tricks in order to implicate him and others of his family into traps.
