The government has honoured five female achievers on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
The award was given at 11:30 am on Monday at the Shishu Academy auditorium in the capital.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was virtually present at the award ceremony.
The honored achievers are – Hasina Begum Neela, Miftahul Jannat, Mosammat Helennesa Begum, Rabizan, Anjana Bala Biswas.
“The achievers would each receive a check, crest and certificate worth Tk one lakh,” said State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira.
Hasina Begum Neela has been honored as a successful entrepreneur and businesswoman from Barishal Division. Miftahul Jannat of Bogura is getting the honour for education and job category.
Mosammat Helennesa Begum of Patuakhali in Barishal division getting the award as a successful mother who raised all her six sons and three daughters. Her eldest son is an additional IGP, the second son is a university teacher and the youngest one is studying abroad.
Rabizan of Tangail was nominated at the national level for overcoming inhumane torture and starting life in a new way. She was a Bir Freedom Fighter who was tortured during Independence.
Anjana Bala Biswas of Narail, Khulna Division was getting recognition for her contribution to the development of society. She set up an organization called “Matrikendra” in 1975 to make women self-reliant through tailoring and handicrafts.
Fazilatun Nesa Indira said this year’s Women’s Day will play an important role in the outstanding progress of women’s development in Bangladesh, reduction of inequality, empowerment of women, prevention of child marriage, protection, prevention of all forms of violence and raising awareness.
