Two teams of Customs Intelligence officials and the Government Railway Police (GRP) in separate drives seized liquid substance gold and some gold bars weighing 5.5kg worth at about Tk 2.85 crore from the city’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) and Kamalapur Railway Station respectively on Monday, sources said.
Customs Intelligence Assistant Director (AD) Umme Nahida said that an Intelligence team
conducted a drive in the HSIA premises following a secret information around 12:30 pm and seized liquid gold substance from two unclaimed luggages.
The customs official said that the seized gold weighing 4.5 kilograms worth around Tk 2.25 cr.
The team could not arrest anybody in this connection.
On the other hand, Kamalapur Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Majid said that a team conducted a drive in the station area following a secret information around 7:45 am. They challenged a suspected passanager while he was getting down from the Dhaka-bound Turna Nishita Express and recovered 10 gold bars from his possession. The police arrested the passenger.
He said that seized gold weighing around 1kg worth around Tk 60 lakh. The arrested passenger has been identified as Babar alias Siraj, 27.
