The 4th Zakat Fair 2016 kicked off at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in the capital friday with a call to distribute Zakat under institutional management.
Adviser of Centre for Zakat Management (CZM) and former minister Lt Gen (retd) M. Nooruddin Khan opened the two-day fair organized by the CZM. The theme of the fair is “Making a difference with Zakat”.
Zakat should be distributed under institutional management instead of traditional form of relief for human development and eradicating poverty, Nooruddin Khan said while inaugurating the fair.
He also said the impact of institutionally paid Zakat, rather than individually paid, is reflected in the total development of the society.
Convener of Zakat Fair Organizing Committee Salahuddin Kasem Khan delivered the welcome speech, while Chairman of the Shariah Board of Social Islami Bank Limited (SIBL) Maulana Shah Waliullah spoke at the opening session.
President of Bangladesh Chamber of Industry (BCI) A K Azad, Chairman of SIBL Major (retd) Dr. Rezaul Haque, Vice Chairman of Islami Banks Consultative Forum A K M Nurul Fazal Bulbul and CZM Chairman Niaz Rahim were also present as special guests at the opening program of the event.
Salahuddin Kasem Khan said, “Zakat ensures social safety-net and reduces the gap between the rich and the poor.” He also said, “At all the phases whether personal or institutional, there should have perfect practice of zakat. For the economic progress and poverty alleviation zakat can play a vital role.”
Niaz Rahim said, “Zakat Fair is organized for accelerating the social and economic progress and poverty alleviation process of Bangladesh.” He urged all concerned including the wealthy people of Bangladesh to visit and know the real calculation of Zakat as well as business Zakat.
The event has attracted several sponsors like Islamic Banks Consultative Forum, Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited, Exim Bank, Social Islami Bank Limited, Islamic Relief Bangladesh, Maan Bangladesh and several other key institutions in the country.
A number of stalls have been set up in the fair that include the Zakat Consultation Desk, several Islamic Banks, Zakat based NGOs and commercial stalls including book stalls, gift items, Islamic institutes and others. The fair will remain open to all from 10am to 6-30pm on May 27 and 28.
