Election Commission will distribute the fourth phase’s smart National Identity Card (NID) at some wards in the capital on January 1.
The wards are Mirpur, Gulshan, Sabujbagh, Motijheel, Dhanmondi and Lalbag police stations.
“The NID card distribution will continue till April 4 next,” Assistant Director (Public Relation) of Election Commission Secretariat Mohammad Asadul Haq told.
The card will be distributed from 9am to 5pm every day.
On October 2 last, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the distribution of the much-awaited NID cards among the country’s citizens, replacing the existing laminated ones. The first phase of card distribution formally started on October 3.
The card distribution among 90 million people across the country will end in phases by December 2017.
This smart card has multipurpose uses in availing 25 types of services like TIN number, driving licence, passport, bank accounts opening, marriage registration and admission to educational institutions.
