4th phase polls held in 107 UZs

The fourth phase of election was held in 107 upazilas of 19 districts on Sunday, but there was no difference in characteristics with the past three phases.
The fourth phase election was not free from low voter turn out, violation, allegation of vote stamping and snatching ballot papers.
The balloting began at 8am and continued till 4pm, without any break.
Voting at all of the 46 centres in Cumilla’s Titas upazila were suspended after reports of the allegations of vote rigging and irregularities.
Kaizar Mohammad Farabi, a Returning Officer and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Cumilla, confirmed the matter.

Another two supporters of Awami League-backed candidate were detained for their alleged attempt to occupy a polling centre in Narayanganj’s Sonargaon upazila.
The followers of vice-chairman candidate Omar Babu alias Babul Hossain tried to take control of Borab Govt Primary School centre in Sadipur union around 1:00am.
They also exploded crude bombs, said Sajjad Roman, an Inspector of Narayanganj Special Branch of police.
The detainees are Suman, 21, from Kanchpur union, and Khokon, 20, from the same locality.
In this phase, 351 chairmen, 533 vice-chairmen and 406 woman vice-chairmen candidates contested. But 39 chairmen, 22 vice-chairmen and 27 woman vice-chairmen contestants have already been elected unopposed.
In Dhamrai, there are 2393 voters at Kalampur Amatonnesa Balika High School polling centre, but only 50 votes were cast so far, said Aminul Islam, Presiding Officer of the centre, around 11:00am.
Meanwhile, voter turnout was less than seven per cent at Bashna Government Primary School polling centre till 12:00pm, Presiding Officer Azharul Islam said adding that the number of voters was 3,134 in the centre.
In Brahmanbaria, there was low voter turnout in most of the centres in Nabinagar upazila. While visiting Konaur Government Primary School polling centre, it has seen that no voters cast their votes at a booth till 12:00pm.
