Finance Minister AMA Muhith said here on Sunday that our present government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working relentlessly for attaining economic progress so that we can come out from the curse of poverty as soon as possible.
We need to make tremendous economic work in the economic field with the object of attaining self-reliant as well as to achieve the target of becoming prosperous country by 2041, he asserted.
Inaugurating the fifteen day football tournament as the chief guest of the function of Khondoker Nurul Hossain Nuru Mia Gold Cup Football Tournament here at newly reconstructed Sheikh Jamal stadium, the finance minister said that football is a very popular game both in the urban and rural areas of our country and this tournament will contribute further in this district.
In an oblique reference to BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s threat to wage movement, Muhit said that people want peace and prosperity and we are working in that area with strong determination so the threat of movement will not work here no more.
Addressing the function as special guest Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Engineer Khondoker Mosharraf Hossain expressed his heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the chief guest for coming over here and demanded to the Finance Minister for shifting the present jail compound from the central place in this town as it has occupied a huge area making obstacles to important development works.
However, the Finance Minister in response to this demand said that it is a big project and it will be considered.
The function was also addressed, among others, by state minister for Jute Mirza Azam, State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikdar, Deputy Commissioner Sardar Sharafat Ali, tournament committee member -secretary Khondoker Mohtesham Hossain Babor and tournament committee chairman and police super Md Jamil Hassan, who also chaired the function. BFF president Kazi Salauddin and Sheikh Jamal Dhanmodi club president Lt.(rtd) Manjur Qader were also present in the function.
Khondoker Nuru Mia Gold Cup Football Tournament was introduced in 2009 after the name of father of Engineer Khondoker Mosharraf Hossain at his personal initiatives.
A total of 14 teams are participating this year including two teams from Kolkata.
