Campus Report :The 4th Convocation of Eastern University (EU) was held on Monday at Basundhara Convention Centre in the city.On behalf of the President, Chancellor of EU Md Abdul Hamid, Education Minister, Nurul Islam Nahid, MP presided over the ceremony.Prof Dr Akbar Ali Khan, noted Economist, retired Cabinet Secretary and Former Adviser to the Caretaker Government was the Convocation Speaker.Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Abdur Rab delivered the welcome speech.Mohammad Enayet Ullah, Chairman, Board of Trustees, EU also spoke on the occasion.A total of 2019 students who graduated from various programs of the University attended the convocation. On the basis of highest CGPA obtained, 2 students received the Chancellor’s Gold Medal, 3 students received Chairman Gold Medal and 4 students received Vice-chancellor’s Gold Medal.After that a cultural program held. LRB a leading band music team performed on the program.A somber atmosphere hung over the joyous ceremony for a while when Abdul Latif, father of Al-Amin (One of the Chairman’s Gold Medalists, who expired recently) came to the stage to receive the medal on behalf of his son. EU authority honored him with a cheque of Tk. 3 Lac as a token of sympathy.The Education Minister congratulated the graduates and their parents. He also congratulated EU authority on this grand occasion.The Convocation Speaker congratulated the young graduates and wished them a happy, prosperous and long life. He spoke about education and its evolution from time immemorial and urged the graduates to develop their humanity in the light of education and increase their productivity. He also commented on the contemporary education policies and education systems.The VC of EU Prof Dr Abdur Rab in his inaugural speech congratulated the graduates and advised them to use their knowledge and skills in their work environment and in personal, family and social life and to fight against corruption. He thanked the Education Minister, the Convocation Speaker, EU family members and other distinguished guests for their sincere efforts to make the ceremony a success despite many constraints.Among others, members of the Board of Trustees of Eastern University, faculty members, officials and staff, media personnel and other distinguished guest were present at the convocation ceremony. The daylong ceremony ended with a joyous and colorful cultural show performed by EU students and LRB.
