4th Dhaka Art Summit begins

The world’s largest platform for South Asian Art, the Dhaka Art Summit on Friday celebrated the inauguration ceremony of its fourth installment at the Shilpakala Academy Auditorium of the capital. This time the 4th edition of the Dhaka Art Summit will take place from February 2 to 10 in a public-private partnership with the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The Summit is free to the public and ticketless.
Present at the event to celebrate the opening ceremony of the Dhaka Art Summit were Abul Maal Abdul Muhit, Finance Minister as the chief guest; Asaduzzaman Noor, Cultural Affairs Minister as the special guest; Hasanul Haque Inu, Information Minister, as the special guest; Farooq Sobhan, Chairman, Organizing Committee, Dhaka Art Summit; Liakat Ali Laki, Director General, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy; Nadia Samdani, Director, Samdani Art Foundation.
Over 300 artists from 35 countries are featured in 10 curated exhibitions and will be led by Chief Curator Diana Campbell Betancourt who is also the Artistic Director, Samdani Art Foundation joined by guest curators. Over 120 speakers will participate in 16 panel discussions and 2 symposiums that strive to ground future developments of art in South Asia within the region’s rich, yet lesser-known, past.
This time 55 international organizations are partnering with Dhaka Art Summit 2018 along with the support of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Ministry of Information of Bangladesh, The National Tourism Board, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and in association with the Bangladesh National Museum.
This edition’s attractions include participation of almost 100 Bangladeshi artists, 12 Bangladeshi artist led organisation’s participation. Internationals guests- curators, artists, writers and speakers from around the world have already started to arrive, and it is expected that this edition of the Summit will have over 1200 international visitors.
