Department of English and Humanities (DEH) of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) held its 4th Inter-University Student Conference and Cultural Competition to commemorate the 200 years of the Brontë siblings, Charlotte, Emily, Anne and Branwell. The two-day event commenced on Saturday featured student representatives from eleven public and private universities. Dr Sohana Manzoor, Assistant Professor at DEH was the Convener of the event.
The program was divided into two sessions – academic and cultural. The academic sessions of Day 1 included research paper presentations by students from universities such as Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University, BRAC University, North South University, Bangladesh University of Professionals, Jagannath University, East West University, South East University, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, University of Asia Pacific and University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh. Day 2 of the conference was dedicated to the relevant dramatic performances by seven teams from among the participating universities.
The paper by SM Mahfuzur Rahman from BRAC University was judged as the best Academic Presentation, while Jacklin Bose from ULAB was the runner up.
In the Cultural Competition, Dhaka University was judged as the best performers, while University of Asia Pacific came second.
Prof Razia Sultana Khan of Independent University Bangladesh and Prof Kamaluddin Ahmed of Chittagong University judged the academic papers. The cultural performances were judged by notable theatre personalities Ataur Rahman, Afsana Mimi, and Bonna Mirza. Cash prizes were awarded for the best two papers and the best cultural performances. Faye Nicholls, Teaching Centre Manager of British Council, Bangladesh graced the occasion as chief guest and attended the prize giving and the closing ceremony.
Vice Chancellor of ULAB Prof Jahirul Haque also attended the closing ceremony. The program ended with a vote of thanks from the Head of DEH, Prof Dr Shamsad Mortuza.
