Bangladesh Open University (BOU) is going to be turned into a virtual university to meet the challenges of 21st century. If we successfully operate the university in this mood, I do believe our country will get a success in this arena. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid MP made this comment at the 4th convocation of the open university on Wednesday (22 April, 2015) at its main campus. Education Minster chaired the ceremony on behalf of the chancellor of the University
He further said, by using digital communication technology, education cost can be minimized. He also desired in his speech that BOU should include the moderate attitude towards non-communal discrimination honesty, patriotism and nationalism in the spirit of our historic liberation war. In this context he memorized the unforgettable statement of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, ÔGive me some people with golden heart and I will give you golden nation’.
The Convocation speaker Chairman University Grants Commission of Bangladesh Prof Dr A K Azad Chowdhury said that the university is an independent arena where intellectuality, human endeavor, flourishment of democratic ideology and culture practices. He also added that this university can lift the dimension of the educational system of this country by using various technology like e-learning, virtual learning blended education and Open Education Resources (OER).
BOU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr MA Mannan expressed his intention with a great aspiration in his inaugural speech to make the country free from the curse of hunger, poverty and illiteracy to build our nation through the university effort. He declared that a Research Center would setup in the university in implement the spirit of our liberation war. He also said that the children and the grand child of the freedom fighter of our country would be able to study in the university free of cost. Prof Dr Mannan also said that Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Mujib International Training Institute is under construction here training programme would go on round the year.
