Road Transport and Bridges Minister, also in charge of the Post, Telecommunications and ICT Ministry in Parliament, Obaidul Quader Tuesday said the government is preparing guideline for providing 4G (Fourth Generation) license aimed at further development of telecommunication sector across the country.
The government has formed a committee for unveiling Spectrum to use of the 4G and LTE (Long Term Evaluation) as the government is committed to make the telecommunication sector modern and time befitting he said, while replying to a question from treasury bench member Begum Sanjida Khanam in the House.
Besides, the government has also given permission to license holders of Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) for providing LTE service, the minister added.
He said the government has already provided 3G (Third Generation) license to various mobile operators for giving quality service to subscribers and 70/80 lakh subscribers received 3G services during the last nine months.
In line with the government’s pledge to bring about a digital revolution in Bangladesh, the ministry has undertaken a project involving Taka 718.07 crore to install 11,000 kms optical fibre cable and transmission at 1,006 union under 98 upazilas in 64 districts.
He said another project is underway to set up 10,500 kms optical fibre cable and transmission machineries at 1,000 remote (without power) unions.
Meanwhile, the state-run Teletalk took a project to expand its 3G technology with own finance of Taka 700 crore. Under the project the mobile operator would install network having 3G technology facility at 64 districts, 1,700 new Base Tower Station (BTS) having 2G technology facility, 1,500 Node-B having 3G technology and other necessary equipment, the minister added.
The government is implementing various projects to make the telecommunication sector modern, he said.
