A total of 49 candidates from Sadar and Sadullapur upazilas submitted their nomination papers to contest different posts in the upcoming upazila elections for the third phase on March 15.
Of the total, some 21 candidates submitted their nomination papers for two chairmen posts, 7 for two female vice chairmen and 21 for two vice chairmen from the upazilas on Saturday, election office sources said.
From Sadar upazila, as many as 14 candidates submitted their nomination papers for the post of upazila chairman. They are Abdur Rashid Sarker (JaPa) Arafat Akter Neela (JaPa), Mojammel Haque Mondal (AL), Aminurzaman Rinku (AL), Pearul Islam (AL), Shah Sarwar Kabir (AL), Hasan Mahmud Siddique (AL), Advocate Mizanur Rahman (BNP), Mahbubur Rahman Tulu (BNP), Sheikh Samad Azad (BNP), Abdul Karim (Jamaat), Mihir Ghos (Communist Party), Ahsanul Habib Sayeed (Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal) and Momin Ul Hasan Juton. On the other hand, a total of 7 candidates submitted their nomination papers on the day for the post of upazila chairman from Sadullapur upazila. The candidates are Shahriar Khan Biplob (AL), Matiar Rahman (AL), MA Wahed Miah (AL), Shafiqul Islam Rafique (BNP), Advocate Abdul Halim (BNP), Rafiqul Islam (JaPa), and Saidur Rahman Munshi (Jamaat).
Sadar UNO Mamunur Rashid and Sadullapur UNO Ahsan Habib who are the assistant returning officers of the elections in the respective upazila confirmed the submission of nomination papers of the candidates on Saturday to the correspondent of the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.
Additional deputy commissioner (General) Abu Bakar Siddique who is the returning officer of the election here said as per the schedule, nomination papers would be scrutinized on February 17.
