At least 486 people were killed and 741 others injured in some 443 road accidents in November, according to a study by a passenger welfare association.
Besides, at least 52 people were killed and 13 injured in 50 railroad accidents, disclosed the study by ‘Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity’ in a press statement on Wednesday.
It also revealed that at least three people were killed, 20 injured and four remained missing in six waterway accidents.
The study was prepared after analysing the reports published in the national and regional dailies and online media.
The study further showed that 51.01 per cent of the total accidents occurred on regional highways, 22.57 per cent on national highways and 21.89 per cent on feeder roads.
Some 2.47 per cent of the total accident took place in Dhaka city, the report said.
The association observed that road accidents and deaths are on the rise due to reckless driving, arbitrariness, irregularities, and corruption and lack of accountability of the agencies responsible for road safety.
It is not possible to ensure road safety without modernising the traffic system, licensing and fitness of vehicles, it added.
