Joynal Abedin Khan :Faisal Arefin Dipon, publisher of Jagriti publication house, was laid to rest at Azimpur graveyard in the capital on Sunday afternoon.He was buried at around 2:45pm after the namaz-e-janaza at Dhaka University Central Mosque at noon in which his son took part after appearing the Junior Secondary Certificate (JSC) examination.People from all walks of life, including intellectuals, writers, publishers and teachers, attended the namaz-e-janaza. Prime minister’s energy adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique were also present.Talking to reporters, Dipan’s father Abul Kashem Fazlul Haq, a professor of Bengali department of Dhaka University, said, “Many people asked me to file a case over my son’s death but I know I won’t get justice. I don’t blame any political party for the murder. I can only say my son had been doing business for earning money and he had no intention to hurt anybody’s religious sentiment.” Dipan’s wife Razia Rahman, a senior medical officer at DU’s medical centre, said Ridad, a student of Udayan High School, took part in the first paper Bengali examination under JSC on Sunday. She has one son ‘Ridad’, and a daughter ‘Ridma’.Earlier, the body was brought to the central mosque from the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) morgue. Doctors found six stab wounds were on his body.Doctors conducting the autopsy on Faisal Arefin Dipan said he was grounded first and then hacked up by his assailants. Kazi Muhammed Abu Sama, chief of forensic department at DMCH, said that three deep cut marks were evident on the back of Dipan’s head and his neck and shoulder. “One of the cut is eleven inches long and four inches deep. But Sama said there was also one cut mark on the front of the head,” he said.”Dipan was thrown down and slashed by sharp weapons on the back of his head, neck and shoulder,” Sama said. DMCH’s Deputy Director Khaja Abdul Gafur said Ehsan Mahmud, head of neurosurgery department, would head the nine-member medical board to treat other victims who sustained injuries in another incident. He said: “The injured have gone through several surgeries yesterday Ahmedur Rahid Tutul and Sudeep have been shifted to ward but Tareq is still not out of danger.Also Ahmed Rashid Tutul, Tareq Rahim and Ranadipam Basu were hacked and shot in Dhaka’s Lalmatia area a few hours ago of Dipan murder.DMCH Director brigadier general Mizanur Rahman said the doctors are not sure if they would be able to save Tareq.Bangladesh Book Publishers and Sellers Association declared that sale of books will remain on halt across the country for half-day on Monday protesting attack on two publishers.The decision has been made at an urgent meeting of the association on Sunday. Alongside the half-day halt on book sale, they declared a three-day protest program.Shops at Aziz Supermarket at Dhaka’s Shahbagh, where publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan was killed, will remain closed for three days (Sunday to Tuesday), said the malls cooperative society president Najmul Ahsan Naju.The Booksellers and Publishers Guild’s chairperson Sikdar Loton said that they will also observe three days of mourning.They will hoist black flags in their offices, their members will wear black badges and take out silent processions in protest against the attacks.Blogger Avijit Roy, Washiqur Rahman, Ananta Bijoy Das, Niladri Chakrabarti and Dipan were killed this year. Ahmed Rajib Haider was killed by assailants in 2013. Detective Branch (DB) of Police have hinted that Ansarulla Bangla Team, the banned militant organisation, has link with the killing of publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan and attack on two bloggers.DMP joint commissioner Md Monirul Islam made the claim at a press conference at the DB office at Minto Road on Sunday.Monirul also said, “Bloggers have been killed earlier. The attacks on publishers emerged as new dimension. He requested the bloggers to inform police if they receive any death threats.”About tackling such attacks, the DB official said such incidents will decrease if a counter-terrorism unit is formed in police.
