48 held in anti-narcotics drive in city

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested at least 48 people in the city in a regular anti-narcotics drive on the charges of selling and consuming illegal drugs.
Different police stations under DMP conducted the drives and arrested the suspected offenders from different areas of the capital in the last 24 hours ending at 6:00am on Thursday.
During the drive, the law enforcers also seized 22,300 pieces of Yaba, 55 grams of heroin, 17.5 kilogrammes of hemp and 88 bottles of phensedyl with some other drug items, according to a DMP statement.
A total of 31 cases were filed under the Narcotic Control Act against the suspects with the concerned police stations in the city.
Meanwhile, the members of DB Gulshan Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police have arrested another drug dealer named Md. Abul Kalam (40) along with 15,000 pieces Yaba tablets from the city’s Jatrabari area.
The Gulshan Zonal Team arrested him on Wednesday night in a raid in Shanir Akhra area of Jatrabari.
A case was also filed under the Narcotic Control Act against the suspects with the Jatrabari Police Station.
