Staff Reporter :The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has issued show-cause notices to its 473 officials in last 14 days due to lack of their investigation performance and other irregularities. Sources said, the show-cause notices were served against the officials according to the innovation plan of the new ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmood. At least 10 officals got several show-cause notices in three working days after joining of the new chairman on March 14, they said. The notices were served mainly due to negligence of duty, attending the meeting lately, submitting files to the concern section after expiring the date and unnecessary moving at office by keeping the door open. Meanwhile, the sources said some visible changes have been witnessed after the notices were served, which increased the speed of the officials. As a result, the staff members became more active to increase their working skill based on the competition.A deputy director, on condition of anonymity, told The New Nation on Tuesday that though the working speed of the officials had increased, the tendency of the officials to investigate the cases decreased because of fear created among them.A director general, on condition of anonymity, told The New Nation that the ACC was running with less manpower considering expansion of the country’s population and corruption. Therefore, an inquiry or investigation officer has to handle 18 -25 files per month. In this reality, it is impossible to dispose files within 24 hours. When asked, ACC Secretary Abu Mohammad Mustafa Kamal told The New Nation, “To my knowledge, 10 officers have been issued show-cause notices by the Chairman. Director General (DG) can also issue such show-cause notices.”He said the purpose of the Commission is not to cast panic among the officials. Its objective is to speed up work. For this purpose, the Commission may take any action.” Mustafa Kamal said the officials are being asked to carry out quick investigation so that innocent people are not harassed.
