A total of 470 kms of rivers will be dredged with joint financing of Bangladesh and India under the deal of “Addendum to the Protocol on Inland Water Transit and Trade.”
The rivers will be dredged from Jakiganj of Sylhet to Ashuganj and Sirajganj of Bangladesh to Doikhawa of India.
The decision was taken in the Cabinet meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
As per the deal, India will bear 80 per cent of the dredging cost, and Bangladesh 20 per cent.
Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said that the Cabinet approved the protocol with a retrospective effect.
