Repeated abduction from Sundarbans: 47 fishermen abducted from 25 trawlers looted

Some 47 fishermen were abducted by forest bandits from the West Sunderban’s Kateswar and Sapkhali areas Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira district on Tuesday night. The robbers also looted 25 fishing trawlers from the spot, said few fishermen who escaped.
On condition of anonymity, they told this correspondent that a group of fishermen were catching fishes in Kateswar and Sapkhali canals on Tuesday night. Two gangs of forest bandits named Jahangir Bahini and Noa Bhai Bahini suddenly attacked the fishermen, beat them mercilessly, abducted at least 47 of them and looted 25 fishing trawlers, demanding ransom of taka 30 thousand each. Five fishermen managed to flee the scene by any means.
Residents of the abducted fishermen are from villages Shora and Napitkhali under Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira district.
When contacted, Md. Jahiruddin Ahmed, Conservator of Forest (CF) of Khulna region told this correspondent that he had not heard anything about the abduction, but he had watched the news in a TV Channel.
It is mentionable in this connection that on September 9, 14 and 17, forest robber gangs Jahangir Bahini and Sagor Bahini abducted 23, 20 and 12 fishermen from Dhansiddhirchar
and Bhaizora areas adjacent to the Sundarbans who were not rescued till filing this report at 1.45 on September 21, 2016.
It is notable here that in 12 days 102 fishermen were abducted from Sundarbans by the gangs of forest robbers.
Sources of coastguard and forest divisions said, rescue operation is going on in the areas adjacent to the Sundarbans.
