47 arrested on various charges in Rangpur

Police arrested 47 persons, including eight leaders and activists of BNP, Jamaat-E-Islami Bangladesh and Islami Chhatra Shibir, from different places in the district on Wednesday night.
The arrested persons include four leaders and activists of BNP and its front organisations and four Jamaat-Shibir activists of different areas under Kotwali Thana, Sadar and Mithapukur upazilas in the district.
The arrested leaders and activists of BNP and its front organisations are Enamul Haque, 25, Rezaul Islam, 25, Fazlul Haque, 40, and Selim, 23 while the arrested Jamaat-Shibir activists are Shahidul Islam, 38, Amirul Islam, 40, Fazlul, 22, and Asadul, 21.
Police said the arrested BNP-Jamaat-Shibir men are allegedly involved with recent subversive activities, petrol bomb attacks, killing innocent people, hurling cocktail bombs and other terrorist activities.
Besides, police arrested 39 more persons, including absconding accused persons of different cases, warrantees, thieves, muggers, drug traders, anti-social elements and other suspicious people from all eight upazilas in the district. After primary interrogation, the arrested were produced before different Rangpur courts from where they were sent to the jail hajat this afternoon, the sources said.
