Some 4,635.51 acres of railway land are under illegal possession of different government and semi-government organizations and various individuals, Railways Minister M Mujibul Haque told Parliament on Sunday.
Replying to a starred question of Awami League MP Waresat Hussaion Belal, he said the illegal occupiers of the railway lands obtained status quo or ban or other sort of orders from the courts filing various cases giving false information to retain their possession.
The Railways Minister informed the House that legal process is underway with a view to freeing the railway lands from the possession of illegal occupiers.
“Highest steps have been taken to recover the railway lands from illegal possession through eviction of the encroachers following due legal process,” he said.
Mujibul Haque mentioned that the evection drive by the Bangladesh Railway is an ongoing process.
