BSS, Lalmonirhat :
A fisherman netted a 46-kilogram “Bagah Aair” fish from the irrigation canal of the Teesta Barrage Project (TBP) on the river Teesta near Doani Bazar under Hatibandha upazila in Lalmonirhat yesterday.
Hundreds of people, including women and children, of the area gathered there to have a look at the huge-sized fish after hearing the news.
Like every day, fisherman Alam Mian, who became homeless from river erosion recently, went to the irrigation canal of the TBP for fishing, set his net there this morning.
“Suddenly, I sensed something heavy in my net and finally caught the “Bagha Aair” fish with the help of the local people,” Alam told local reporters.
“Later I found the fish weighed 46-kg,” said fisherman Alam, adding that he never netted, or even found, such a big sized fish anytime in the past during his long professional life.
Later, Alam took the fish to nearby Doani Bazar adjacent to the TBP and sold the tasty and rare species of fish at Taka 39,000 to a fish trader Abdul Khaleque who came there from Lalmonirhat district town after knowing the news.
“I am happy now—- Erosion of the Teesta devoured my house during last floods when I became homeless and took shelter on the nearby embankment. I would be able to build my house anew for my family,” said a happy Alam after selling the fish.
