43 shops burn down in Gaibandha, Sylhet, Morrelganj

A fire that broke out at Paka Matha Bazar in Sadullahpur upazila early Wednesday gutted ten shops.
Witnesses said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a shop of Paka Matha Bazar and soon engulfed nine other adjoining shops around 2:30 am.
On information, a fire fighting unit rushed in and extinguished the blaze after one hour of frantic efforts.
The affected shop owners claimed that the loss caused by the fire could go up to Tk70 lakh.
Sylhet Correspondent reports: A fire burnt down 10 houses of a shelter project at Ashampara in Jaintapur upazila of the district on Tuesday night.
Senior station officer of Sylhet Fire Service Jabed Hossain M Tareque said the fire originated from an electric short circuit around 9pm and soon engulfed nine other adjoining houses.
On information, three firefighting units rushed to the spot around 10pm and doused the flame before the fire spread to the other houses at the shelter project.
Jabed Hossain said the extent of loss caused by the fire would go up to Tk10 lakh.
Bagerhat Correspondent adds: About 23 shops were gutted when a devastating fire broke out in Morrelganj bazar, situated on Morrelganj Upazila headquarters in the district in the early hours of Tuesday. At that time Purnima Rani Karmakar (75), wife one Ganesh Karmakar of the bazar suddenly expired after she was being frightened of the dreadful fire incident.
According to the local Fire Brigade Station, the fire originated from an electricity short circuit took place in the fish patty of the bazar spread to the adjacent shops of the sides of the patty without any resistance as the shopkeepers of the bazar fell asleep. Consequently, the fire went out of control within moments and engulfed a large number of shops. on seeing the flame of fire and on hearing the hue and cry of the shopkeepers neighbouring people rushed to the spot and tried to extinguish the fire, but in vain. On the other hand, the local fire brigade took much time to reach the spot due to unplanned footpath shops and crisscrossing polythene sheds hanged on the roads. Then the firemen with the help of the locals brought the fire under control. But in spite of that 23 shops including 3 cloth stores 5 grocery shops, 2 jewelries and one medicine shops with their all belongings were completely burnt to ashes. Some 10/12 persons sustained burn injuries at the time of extinguishing the fire.. According to the primary estimation, the loss pf fire is about Taka more than 1.5 crores.
In the following morning Adv. Shahe-e-Alam Baschu, Morrelganj Upazila Parishad Chirman and Upazila Nirbhi Officer visited the place of occurrence and cosoled the fire affected shopkeepers.
