43 more virus deaths, 3,809 new infections in BD

Bangladesh on Sunday reported 43 more deaths from the novel coronavirus infection in span of 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.
“With the new fatalities, the body count to 1,738. Besides, more 3,809 positive tests in th same span totaling the number of infection to 137,787,” DGHS Additional Director General Professor Dr. Nasima Sultana said in a press briefing.
She said that another 1,409 infected patients recovered at home and in hospital care in the same period, bringing the total to 55,727.
The DGHS official said that the rate of recovery from the disease currently stands at 40.54 percent while the mortality rate is 1.26 percent.
She said total 18,099 samples were tested across the country with 21.05 percent returning positive results.
Among the deceased, 31 were men and 14 women.
Two of them were between 21 and 30 years old, one between 31 and 40, seven between 41 and 50, 13 between 51 and 60, 12 between 61 and 70, seven between 71 and 80 while another was over 81 years old. Bangladesh on March 8 reported its first cases of the virus infections while on March 18 it registered its first death from the disease.
