Sylhet division lost eight more lives to Covid-19 in the past 24 hours until early Friday, reports UNB.
Of the deceased, six were from Sylhet district and one each from Habiganj and Moulvibazar, according to thehealth bulletinofSylhet division.
Sylhet recorded 531 new cases Friday after testing16,680samples, and the percentage of Covid-19 tests coming back positive stood at 31.61%.
At least 48 people were admitted to hospitals during this time.
So far, Sylhet has confirmed 48,109 infections and 873 coronavirus-related deaths. However, 35,695 people have also recovered from Covid-19 cases.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh added 197 fatalities to its national tally Friday as Covid hospitalisations and deaths continue to soar.
As more people are falling sick with Covid-19 and dying, Dhaka division reported the highest 78 deaths, Chattogram 53, Khulna 18, Mymensingh 12, Barishal 11, Rangpur nine, and eight each in Rajshahi and Sylhet.
There have been 14,05,333 infections and 23,810 coronavirus-related deaths in Bangladesh since the pandemic began, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.
Meanwhile, thirteen more Covid-related deaths were reported at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) in 24 hours, health officials said on Friday.
Five of them were confirmed Covid-19 patients while seven showed symptoms
and another died of post-corona health complications, said hospital director Brigadier General Shamim Yeazdani
Of the deceased, eight were from Rajshahi district, three from Pabna, and one each from Chapainawabganj and Natore districts. Seven of them were men while the remaining were women.
Shamim said that 40 new patients have been admitted to the corona unit of the hospital in the past 24 hours. On the other hand, 44 people were discharged from the hospital after recovery during the period.
Besides, some 325 people are currently undergoing treatment at the 513-bed corona unit of the hospital.
RMCH has been one of the most stretched hospitals in the country during the second wave of Covid-19, particularly since the latter part of May when the deadly Delta variant of the virus was identified in multiple samples of Rajshahi division.
Besides, Barishal division has logged 14 new Covid deaths in the past 24 hours, health officials said on Friday morning.
Of the deceased, nine had tested positive for Covid-19 while the remaining five showed symptoms of the virus infection.
Six of them died at Sher-E-Bangla Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH), while the others in different hospitals, the officials said.
Divisional Health Director Dr Basudev Kumar Das said that 585 patients have died of Covid-19 in the division so far.
Besides, 473 people have tested positive for Covid in Barishal division in the past 24 hours and of them, 221 are from Barishal district alone. So far, 16,670 people have been infected in the district.
Some 40,592 active Covid patients have been identified in the division to date, according to the officials.
Currently, 194 Covid patients are undergoing treatment at the 300-bed Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital.
Meanwhile, 19 new Covid patients have been admitted to the hospital’s Covid unit in the past 24 hours, the officials said.
So far, 158 people have died of Covid-19 and 888 with symptoms at the hospital.
On the other hand, 23,282 people have recovered from Covid in the division to date.
BSS adds: A total of 616 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the district in the last 24-hour.
The infection rate is 24.18 percent.
The number of COVID-19 cases speedily raised to 93,864 as 616 more persons were reported Covid-19 positive after testing 2547 samples in the district.
Among the newly detected patients, 367 are from Chattogram city and 249 from different upazilas of the district, hospital sources said.
Among the total infected persons, 69,041 are the residents of the port city and the rest 24,843 are residents of different upazilas of the district.

The death toll from the virus reached 1,111 after eight fatalities was reported in the district, said Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of Chattogram.
Among the reported fatalities, 643 were the residents of the port city and the rest 468 were from different upazilas of the district, he said.
A total of 4822 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at designated hospitals here, the health official mentioned.
