Forty three containers fell into the Bay of Bengal from a cargo vessel on Sunday morning near Hatiya while those were being carried to Dhaka.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Deputy Director Mohammad Selim said 43 containers out of 83 fell from cargo vessel ‘KSL Gladiator’ into waters amid rough weather at Bhasan Char in Noakhali.
The accident occurred when the containers were being taken to Dhaka’s Pangaon container terminal from Chattogram port.
However, vessel movement through Hatiya
channel is not being hampered due to the accident, he said.
He further said that Bangladesh Navy, Coast Guard and the Port Authorities have been trying to retrieve the containers.
