42nd death anniv of Mukundalal Sarker today

The 42nd death anniversary of Mukundalal Sarker, a prominent leader of anti-British Movement and a war veteran of 1971, will be observed today.
To mark the day, a discussion on his life will be held at 4pm at his Dharmaryer Bari Village under Muksedpur upazila of Gopalgonj district.
The discussion includes “Gopalganj-er Mukundalal: Janopoder Jananeta” (Mukundalal of Gopalganj: Leader of the Locality), a book written by Dr Tapan Bagchi, Director of Bangla Academy.
Besides, food will be served among elderly people nearby old home at Hyshur in the district. While special prayers will be offered for the salvation of his departed soul.
Mukundalal, also father of former city editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Ajit Kumar Sarkar, was born in 1909 at Dharmaryer Bari Village under Muksedpur Upazila of Gopalgonj district.
During his long political career, he played an important role in building a strong resistance against the imperialist forces and actively participated in the movement against Zamindary system.
He was detained for several times for his role against British rule. Mukundalal was imprisoned under defense of Pakistan rule in 1965.
He was very close to Hussain Shaheed Suhurawardy, Sher-e-Bangla A K Fazlul Huq, Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani and the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
His sons– Manaindra Nath Sarker, Subash Sarker and Ajit Kumar Sarkar-have requested all to pray for peace of the departed soul of their father.
