Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have arrested at least 42 muggers who were members of “Salaam Party on knife point in different areas of the city in separate drives.
During the anti-narcotics drives, huge locals arms, mobile phone sets and other muggings things were recovered.
The arrested confessed during primary interrogation that they first greet pedestrians or rickshaw passengers with “salaam” and then mugged them at knifepoint.
They target people in areas like Satrasta, Nabisco , Mohakhali Bus Terminal, Banani, Gulshan-1, Rampura Bridge, Dhanmondi, Bongshal, Chawkbazar, Kalabagan, Gulistan, Jatrabari, Sayedabad and New Market, according to the press release.
The DB team also recovered 74 mobile phone sets, a tab, a laptop, 13 knives and two machetes during the drive, said DMP Additional Commissioner (DB) Abdul Baten in a press release.
“Salaam Party” was discovered after police started investigating similar mugging incidents, he added.
