A total of 42 people were detected positive for coronavirus in Rajshahi division with 112 recoveries afresh on Monday, said an official report here on Tuesday.
The total number of COVID-19 infected patients in the division reached 19,975 amidst detection of the new positive cases in three districts of the division on Monday.
Of the total new positive cases, the highest 16 were detected in Bogura followed by 12 in Rajshahi including seven in its city, six in Joypurhat, three in Naogaon and two each in Sirajgonj and Pabna districts, said Dr Gopendra Nath Acharya, divisional director of Health.
Among the infected patients, 17,941 have, so far, recovered from the Covid-19 with 299 fatalities including 181 in Bogura and 44 in Rajshahi including 24 in its city.
Another 2,379 patients were undergoing treatment in designated hospitals in the division till Tuesday morning. Besides, 5,192 other patients were undergoing treatment in isolation units and of them, 4,422 have, by now, been released.
With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the reported COVID-19 cases now stands at 4,943 in Rajshahi including 3,622 in its city, 775 in Chapainawabganj, 1,295 in Naogaon, 987 in Natore, 1,087 in Joypurhat, 7,608 in Bogura, 2,149 in Sirajganj and 1,131 in Pabna.
Following detection of the new COVID-19 cases, the respective houses of the infected persons in different areas under the division were placed on 14-day lockdown according to the health safety guidelines.
On the other hand, a total of 48 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 71 others were released in all eight districts of the division over the last 24 hours till 8am on Tuesday.
A total of 59,559 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
Of them, 57,314 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period in the division.
Dr Nath said the whereabouts of the persons, who came in contact with COVID-19 patients, were identified and they were asked to remain in home isolation so that the virus cannot spread further.
Utmost emphasis has been given to bring all the suspected people under quarantine, isolation and testing as these are being adjudged as important means of containing the community transmission of the virus, he added.
