42 mayoral aspirants lose security money

M M Jasim :All the mayor candidates except those supported by the Awami League and the BNP have lost their ‘security money’ in the Dhaka South, the Dhaka North and the Chittagong City Corporations election. It means, out of 48 mayoral candidates, 42 have lost their security money. Of them, 14 mayor candidates out of 16 have lost security money in Dhaka North City Corporation.Besides, 18 mayor candidates out of 20 have lost security money in Dhaka South City Corporation. And 10 mayor candidates out of 12 lost security money in Chittagong City Corporation. According to the Election commission, a candidate must poll at least eight percent of the votes cast. Any candidate failing to get these votes will loose his ‘security money’. AL-backed Annisul Huq in North polled 460,117 votes and Sayeed Khokon in South bagged 535,296 votes, BNP-backed Tabith Awal got 325,080 in North and Mirza Abbas got 294,291 in South. In Dhaka North City Corporation election 8,74581 were cast. A candidate was required to get 1,00,322 votes for saving security money. It means 14 candidates out of 16 lost their security money. The candidates who lost their security money are Gonosanghati-backed Junayed Abdur Rahim (7,370 votes), CPB-backed Abdullah Al Kafi (2,475), Bikalpa Dhara-backed Mahi B Chowdhury (13,407), Jatiya Party-backed Bahauddin Ahmed Babul (2,950), JSD (Inu)-backed Nader Chowdhury (1,041), AWM Kamrul Islam (1,216), Kazi Md Shahidullah (1,968), Sheikh Md Fazle Bari Masud (18,050), Shamsul Alam Chowdhury (982), Moazzem Hossain Khan Mojlish (1,095), Chowdhury Erad Ahmad Siddique (915), Md Anisuzzaman Khokon (900), Jaman Bhuiyan (140) and Sheikh Wahiduzzaman (923). In the Dhaka South City Corporation election 9,05484 votes were cast. A candidate had to get 113186 votes for saving his or her security money. But 14 candidates out of 16 lost their security money. The candidates who lost their security money are Abdur Rahman (1,784), SM Akram (682), Abu Naser Md Masud Hossain (2,197), Advocate Md Ayub Hossain (354), SM Asaduzzaman Ripon (928), Dilip Bhadra (669), Bazlur Rashid Firoz (1,029), Mosiur Rahman (508), Md Shafiullah Chowdhury (512), Hazi Saifuddin Ahmed Milon (4,419), Akhtaruzzaman (362), Md Abdul Khalek (550), Golam Mowla Roni (1,887), Md Zahidur Rahman (988), Md Baharane Sultan Bahar (312), Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury (2,173), Shahidul Islam (1,229) and Shahin Khan (2,074). In Chittagong Corporation election 8,68,663 votes were cast. A candidate had to get 108,583 votes for saving security money. AL-backed AJM Nasir Uddin bagged 475,361 votes and BNP-backed Manjur Alam obtained 304,837 votes. The candidates who lost their security money are Arif Moinuddin (1,774), M A Matin (11,655), Shafiul Alam (680), Abul Kalam Azad (1,385), Md Alauddin Chowdhury (2,159), Wazed Hossain Bhuiyan (9,686), Sulaiman ALam Sheth (6,131), Saifuddin Ahmed Robi (2,661), Sazzad Zoha (843) and Mujibul Haque (4,215).
