A total of 42, which is the highest number of fatalities so far from the coronavirus infections found in the last 24 hours in the country.
Besides, 2,743 people have been infected from the virus in the same period, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said on Sunday.
“With the new cases, the death toll now stands at 888, while the total number of infected has reached to 65,769 including the new cases,” Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration) of DGHS, said in a press briefing.
“This is the highest number of deaths reported in a day in the country so far,” Dr. Sultana said.
The DGHS official said that the infection rate is 20.88 percent.
She said that total 13,136 samples were tested in 52 laboratories across the country in the last 24 hours.
Besides, the DGHS official said, total 578 Covid-19 patients have recovered and released from different hospitals across the country since Saturday, taking the total number of recoveries to 13,903.
She said that the recovery rate is now 21.14 percent.
Of the deceased, 35 were male and seven female and 27 were from Dhaka, eight from Chattogram, two from Rajshahi, two from Khulna, two from Sylhet and the other from Mymensingh division.
Among the deceased, 30 died in hospitals and 12 at home, she said.
Of them, one was between 21-30 years old, seven between 31-40, nine within 41-50, seven within 51-60, 14 between 61-70, three were 71-80 and another was 91-100 years old.
A total of 467 people were put in isolation in the last 24 hours, she said.
Bangladesh has reported the first Covid-19 infection on March 8 and announced first death from the virus on March 18.
