Forty-two eminent citizens of the country have written to President M Abdul Hamid alleging serious financial irregularities, corruption and election-related misconduct against the incumbent Election Commission (EC) led by K M Nurul Huda.
Sushasoner Jonno Nagorik (Sujan), a civil society platform, issued a press statement in this regard on Friday night.

The eminent citizens will hold a press conference today (Saturday) on the letter
sent to the President, the statement said.
The press release further said that on December 14, the 42 prominent citizens submitted an application to the President requesting him to form a ‘Supreme Judicial Council’ under the Article 96 of the Bangladesh Constitution to investigate irregularities against the incumbent Election Commission.
Professor Sirajul Islam Chowdhury, M Hafiz Uddin Khan, Dr. Akbar Ali Khan, Sultana Kamal, Ali Imam Majumdar and Dr. Hamida Hossain, are, among others, the signatories.
