42 die, 2,744 infected from Covid-19 in 24 hours

The country on Tuesday registered 42 deaths and detected 2,744 more patients infected in the last 24 hours.
“With the new fatalities, the death toll now stands at 2,751 and the death rate 1.29 percent,” said Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), in a press briefing in Dhaka.
With the new cases, the total number of infections in the country is 2,13,254.
The DGHS official said that 12,050 samples were tested across the country and found that the current infection rate is 22.77 percent. The total infection rate stands at 19.99 percent, she added.
Besides, 1,805 Covid-19 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours across the country, The total number of recoveries being 1,17,202 and the recovery rate 54.96 percent.
The DGHS official said that, of the dead patients, 30 were males and 12 were females. One was between 11-20 years, one between 21-30, three between 31-40, three between 41-50, 11 between 51-60, 14 between 61-70, eight between 71-80 and one was between 81-90 years, Dr Sultana said.
Registering its first coronavirus infection cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18, Bangladesh is currently on the 16th position in the list of worst affected country in the world in terms of the number of cases.
