Chittagong Bureau :The 41st death anniversary of the former Labour and Social Welfare Minister Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury was observed here in a befitting manner. Awami League Chittagong City, South and N orth district units and its different front organizations observed the anniversary through day long programme . The programmes include placing wreaths at the grave of Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury at Dampara at 11 am, milad mahfil, discussion meeting on the life and contributions of the late leader at his residence. A motorcade carrying huge workers and supporters led by former city Mayor A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury visited the grave of Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury at Dampara. City Mayor AZM Nasir Uddin, Chittagong North District AL president Nurul Alam Chowdhury, South District AL President Muslem uddin Ahmed, Didarul Alam, MP, son of Late Jahour Ahmed Chowdhury and Vice President of city AL Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury and among others AL leaders were attended the function. The leaders and workers placed wreaths, offered Fateha and arranged milad mahfil. AL south and north district unit also arranged identical programmes to mark the day. Paying deep respect to the late leader Mohiuddin Chowdhury said Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury was a rare leader in the history who had been able to serve as chairman of eastern zone and guided in its some most crucial moments during liberation war of 1971. Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury, a dedicated politician, one of the founding members of Bangladesh Awami League, and a leading organiser of Liberation War of Bangladesh died on July 1, 1974. He was a pioneer labour leader, language movement hero, and elected people’s representative in different positions from 1953 to 1973. He was a member in the first cabinet of Tajuddin Ahmed in independent Bangladesh and also of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
