The country on Monday registered 41 more deaths and detected 3,057 more patients of coronavirus in the last 24 hours.
“With the new fatalities, the death toll now stands at 2,709 and the death rate 1.29 percent,” Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said in a press briefing in Dhaka.
With the new cases, the total number of infections in the country is 2,10,510.
The DGHS official said that 12,898 samples were tested in 80 authorised laboratories across the country and found that the current infection rate is 23.7 percent.
The total infection rate stands at 19.96 percent, She added.
Meanwhile, 1,841 Covid-19 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours Dr. Sultana said. The total number of recoveries stands at 1,15,397 and the recovery rate at 54.82 percent, as per the DGHS data.
Dr Sultana said, 710 people were put under isolation in the same period.
She said that among the deceased 34 were males and seven were females.
Of them, she said, 15 were from Dhaka, 15 from Chattogram, five from Rajshahi , another five from Khulna and one were from Rangpur division.
Among them, one was between 21-30 years old, two between 31-40, six between 41-50, 12 between 51-60, 11 between 61-70, seven between 71-80, two were between 81-90 years old.
After registered its first infection on March 8 and first death from the disease on March 18, Bangladesh now stands on the 16th position in the list of worst affected country in the world in terms of the number of cases.
