Dutch-Bangla Bank Ltd. (DBBL), under its social cause program, has been awarding scholarship to the meritorious students in need of financial aid studying at Higher Secondary, Graduation levels.
Under this initiative, a total number of 36,410 students got DBBL scholarship among which 18,748 students of different levels are receiving the scholarship at present. In this connection, the Bank has awarded scholarships to 4,025 meritorious students who passed SSC or equivalent examination in 2015 and studying at HSC level in different colleges of the country.
Abul Maal A. Muhith, Minister for Finance was present as the chief guest and handed over the scholarship awarding letters to the recipients at a ceremony held at city’s Shaheed Surhawardy Indoor Stadium on Saturday.
Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Anisul Huq and Benoit-Pierre Laramee, High Commissioner of Canada to Bangladesh were present as Special Guests. Sayem Ahmed, Chairman of Board of Directors of DBBL presided over the function. K.S. Tabrez, Managing Director of the bank was also present at the function.
Addressing as chief guest, the finance minister said appreciated the banks initiative for the development of country’s education sector.
He also appreciated the DBBL’s continuous humanitarian and welfare activities and termed this scholarship program as a unique example of helping the meritorious and needy students of the country.
He expected that all the corporate bodies of the country would come forward with such programs for the benefit of the society.
Anisul Huq lauded the role of DBBL in connection with philanthropic activities to stand by the distress people of the country.
