Some 40 public universities of the country signed the annual performance agreement with University Grants Commission of Bangladesh for the fiscal year 2018-2019 under the Performance Management Framework Policy of the government yesterday.
The major goal of the agreement is to establish good governance and excellence at the higher educational institutions of the country. Prof Abdul Mannan, Chairman, UGC attended the signing ceremony as the Chief Guest. With Prof Dr. M. Shah Nowaz Ali, Member, UGC in the Chair, UGC Members- Professor Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Prof Dr. Dil Afroza Begum and Prof Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain were present as the Special uests. Dr. Md Khaled, Secretary, UGC and Registrars of the universities signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations at a ceremony held at UGC. In his speech, Prof Mannan emphasized to develop skilled manpower for the sake of the country. He asked all to work jointly with a view to materializing the vision 2021 and 2041 set by the government. Prof Shah Nowaz also urged the university authorities to properly utilize the public money and put emphasis on to developing the nation through providing quality education. Prof Dr. Farzana Islam, VC, Jahangirnagar University and Prof Dr. Kanak Kanti Barua, VC, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Prof Dr. M. Abdus Sobhan, Vice-Chancellor, Rajshahi University, among others, spoke at the event. Vice-Chancellors, Registrars of the public universities, high officials from Ministry of Education and UGC, among others, were present on the occasion, says a press release.
