The works of preliminary phase have been near about completion stage. Project Director of Karnaphuli tunnel project Harunur Rashid Chowdhury told the media persons that 40 percent of the total project works have been completed in the meantime.
He said at Anowara site of the tunnel, power line and sub-station construction is progressing fast and road construction works in Patenga site is quickly advancing. Project director also said the construction of working shaft, cut under cover already completed. He said out of total 382 acres of land so acquisitioned for the project and the remaining under process.
Following the formal inauguration of construction works by the Prime Minister on February 24 last, the speed of works accelerated further . Project Director further said the total cost estimated Tk.9,900 crores for 3.32 kilometers long tunnel under Karnaphuli river in Chattogram.
Chinese Exim Bank will provide Tk.5,900 crores with the remaining will be borne by Bangladesh govt . The total project work is expected to be completed by 2022 , sources said.
