The people of Sitakunda upazila in Chittagong including students of different educational institutions formed 40 kilometers long human chain beside Dhaka Chittagong Highway starting from city gate of the city to Daroghahat of Sitakunda demanding the safe road (nirapad sarak) and to take measures to minimize the frequent road accidents on that portion of the highway .
Following the alarming increase of road mishaps in sitakunda area, the different educational institutions and people irrespective of caste , creed and opinions organized this human chain yesterday morning(Saturday).
Thousand hundreds of people including students of all educational institutions of sitakunda upazia, teachers, social workers, sports personalities, NGO organizations and the representatives of 9 Union Parishads and one Pourashava participated the human chain. President of Sitakunda Samity in port city Md. Giasuddin told The New Nation that following the alarming increase of road accidents in Sitakunda area, this human chain was formed demanding the govt inferference in reckless plying of transports and running of fitnessless transports .
The human chain urged the concerned authorities to undertake effective measures against the reckless driving in the highway, he added. He further told that in last three months, 32 persons were killed in road mishaps of sitakunda and more than hundred critically injured.
He further apprised that in last one a total of 142 people were died of road mishap in the areas.
