40 journalists, media workers die of COVID-19, symptoms

At least 40 journalists and media workers died of COVID-19 and with its symptoms across Bangladesh since April.
Sirajganj staff correspondent of private television channel RTV Sukanta Sen died of COVID-19 at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Saturday morning. He was 45.
He breathed his last at around 5:45am while undergoing treatment there since November 26, said Sirajganj Press Club general secretary Ferdous Robin.
Including Sukanta, a total of 28 journalists and media workers died of the viral disease while 12 died with COVID-19 symptoms since the outbreak of the virus in the country in March.
On November 24, the Daily Sangbad acting editor and freedom fighter Khandaker Muniruzzaman died while undergoing treatment for COVID-19 infections at a hospital in Dhaka.
According to media houses and journalist organisations, 1,068 journalists and media workers were affected by the novel coronavirus until Friday.
Of them, 760 are from Dhaka and 308 from other parts of the country.
They are from 199 national and local media houses- from 122 newspapers, 32 television channels, 38 internet news portals, 5 radios and 2 news agencies.
Bangladesh logged an additional 35 deaths and 1,888 infections from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours on Saturday, counting the death toll to 6,807 and infections to 475,991.
Among the deceased, 23 were male and 12 female patients.
A Directorate General of Health Services release came up with the latest COVID-19 data.
