40 gold bars seized at HSIA

Customs officials seized 40 gold bars, weighing 4.6 kilograms, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Tuesday.
The gold bars worth Tk 2.10 crore were found in an abandoned condition inside a toilet of the airport Customs Hall at 11:45am, said Moinul Khan, Director General of the Customs Intelligence (CI). No one was arrested in this connection, he said. Moinul Khan, said, the gold was smuggled into the country from Dubai.
Airport sources said, some dishonest officials of the Civil Aviation Authorities of Bangladesh (CAAB) and
Biman Bangladesh Airlines might be involved in the incident.
According to the sources, over 750kg of smuggled gold was seized in the airport last year. The sources said around 60 gangs are active in the smuggling of gold, currencies, various precious metals, stones and other valuables.
