A number of 40 homeless families affected by Brahmaputra river erosion are being rehabilitated at Kharjanir char cluster village under Kamarjani union of Sadar upazila in the district.
Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK), a local reputed non-government organization, is implementing the rehabilitation work with the financial support of AWO international, said Aftab Hossain, coordinator of GUK.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin formally inaugurated the cluster village on May 30 and distributed cash Tk 4750 to the affected families each on behalf of the organization.
Executive chief of GUK Abdus Salam told the BSS that a total of 40 families would be rehabilitated at the cluster village.
The families would get various facilities like sanitary latrine, tube wells for pure drinking water, separate bathrooms for male and female and solar panels from the organization, he said.
They would also get domestic animals – cow, goat and poultry birds- from the organization aimed at involving them in income generating activities, he added.
Necessary measures would also be taken for the river erosion-affected families sheltered at the cluster village to change their socio economic condition, he concluded.
