Staff Reporter :Four women were killed and three others injured when a speedy truck hit them on Dariarpar road under Burichong Upazila in Comilla district early Tuesday.The victims have been identified as Jahanara Begum,60, Ranu Ara Begum, 55, Monowara Begum,45, and Salma,32. The dead and injured women are inhabitants of Burichong Upazila’s Punnomoti Noapara village. The names of the injured could not be ascertained as they were undergoing treatment in a local hospital. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Burichong Police Station Zahirul Islam told The New Nation over phone yesterday afternoon that all of them were returning home after attending a night-long ‘Waz mahfil’ at Dariarpar.The speedy truck from Brahmanbaria ran over them and fled away, leaving Salma dead on the spot.The other three succumbed to their injuries on way to Comilla Medical College and Hospital, he added.The driver fled the spot with the truck. Police are trying to arrest him. A case has been lodged with the police station in this connection.
