A tribunal here on Tuesday convicted four people of killing a minor boy after abduction in Durgapur upazila in 2013, and sentenced them to death.
The condemned convicts are Saidul Islam, 32, son of Shamsuddin, his brother Al-Amin, 30, Abdur Rashid, 30, son of late Abdul Jabbar, and Rafiqul Islam, 31, son of Nur Hossain. All of them hail from Chak Langura village in the upazila.
The court also fined them Tk 25,000 each.
According to the prosecution, the convicts kidnapped Emon Ahmed, 10, of the village on August 19,
2013 and demanded Tk 1 lakh and one tola of gold as ransom for his release.
As their demand went unheeded, the kidnappers killed the boy the following day.
A case was filed with Durgapur police station in this regard and police submitted charge sheet against the four after investigation.
After examining the records and witnesses, judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Dr AKM Abul Kashem handed down the verdict.
