Four persons were yesterday sentenced to death, and nine others to life-term imprisonment for killing a headmaster in Shariatpur Sadar upazila in 2010.
Judge Md Monir Kamal of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 of Dhaka pronounced the verdict on Wednesday afternoon.
The death row convict are Nuruzzaman Khan, Jahangir Matbar, Julhas Matbar and Chand Mia while life-term awarded convicts are Abdul Halim Mollah, Azizul Matbar, Faruq Khan, Azahar Matbar, Mizan Mir, Akter
Gazi, Jalil Matbar, Emdad Matbar and Lal Mia.
The court also fined them Tk20,00, in default the life-term prisoners would have to suffer six more months in the jail.
The court acquitted five other accused in the case as the prosecution could not produce enough evidence against them.
According to case statement, the death sentenced convicts hacked Abdus Samad Azad, headmaster of Chikandi Saraf Ali High School on January 15, 2010.
The victim’s wife filed the case against 30 people, including Chairman Halim Mollah and former Chairman Azibar Bali, and 15/20 unidentified persons with Palang Police Station.
