4 to die, 1 gets life for killing trader in Bagerhat

Al Asad Md. Asifuzzaman, Additional District and Session Judge, Bagerhat, in a judgment delivered yesterday convicted 5 persons and sentenced 4 of them to be hanged till their death and to pay a fine of Tk 20 thousand each and sentenced the rest1 to suffer rigorous imprisonment for life and to pay a fine of Tk.25 thousand in default to suffer another rigorous imprisonment for one year more on the charge killing Sarwar Hossain Hawladar (55), a fish farm trader of Morrelganj UPazila.
Those who were awarded death penalty are Lablu Khan (41), son of one Afsar Khan of village Baharbunia, Habibur Rahman alias Habi dacoit, son of one Asmat Ali Haoladar of Uttar Fulhata, Al-Amin Hawladar, son one Taleb Hawladar of village Chaprakhali and Bellal Hossain, son of one Mujibor Hawladar of village Surjamukhi under Morrelganj Upazila. All of them were absent in the court at the time judgment as they have been absconding.
One who was awarded life term is Harun Shaikh, son of one Abdur Rob Shaikh of Uttar Baharbunia under Morrelganj Upazila. 6 persons, were, however, acquitted of the charge for want of sufficient evidences.
The prosecution stpory, in short, is that on February 20 at night in the year 2006 the accused persons called out deceased Sarwar Hossain Hawladar, son of one Bashiruddin Hawladar of village Uttar Fulhata under Morrelganj Upazila from his residence, chopped him to death and threw the dead body into a nearby canal. Members of his family waited long for his return. But he did not return. Then the members of his family began to search him at the night and found his dead body in the canal. In this connection wife of the deceased registered a murder case with Morrelganj PS against 17 persons. Police investigated into the matter and submitted a charge sheet to court against 12 persons on October 30. 2007.
