Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah on Tuesday said a four-tier security measures had been taken at Central Shaheed Minar and its adjacent areas ahead of the smooth celebration of ‘Amar Ekushey’ and International Mother Language Day on Thursday.
A total of 6,000 police personnel will be deployed in and around Shaheed Minar while 10,000 more will remain vigilant to ensure the security of Dhaka city.
Plain-clothes police, dog squads, and bomb disposal units will be deployed, the DMP boss said.
The DMP Commissioner disclosed this in a briefing after visiting Shaheed Minar area on Tuesday morning.
Bags, sharp objects-including knives and scissors-plus flammable and explosive substances will not be allowed at the Minar,” he said.
 “All archways, entrances, and police checkpoints to the Shaheed Minar will have metal detectors. The road in front of the Central Shaheed Minar will be closed from 8pm on February 19 to 6pm on February 20, to allow artists to paint murals and colorful motifs.”
Further detailing the DMP security plan, Asaduzzaman Miah said: “Vehicle traffic inside the Dhaka University campus will be restricted from 6:00pm on February 20 to 6pm on February 21. Only vehicles bearing the authorization sticker of the University will be able to travel freely inside the campus.
 “The Central Shaheed Minar will be opened for public after President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, senior government and political officials pay homage to the Language Movement martyrs,” he said.
Only teachers, students, staff, and employees carrying identity cards issued by the university will be allowed free movement inside the campus.
Asaduzzaman Miah added.
The visitors will be checked while going through the archway in front of Jagannath Hall. They will not be permitted to carry bags or suspicious substances. Visitors will be required to follow directives broadcast by the Dhaka University Administration over loudspeakers at the Central Shaheed Minar.
The DMP ended the post seeking sincere support of everyone for the safe and unhindered observance of the Shaheed Dibas and International Mother Language Day.
Meanwhile, traffic to Nilkhet, Palashi, Fuller Road, Bakshi Bazar, Chankharpool, Shahidullah Hall, Doyel Chattar, Gymnasium, Romana Chattar, the High Court, the TSC intersection, the Shahbagh intersection will be blocked, and vehicles will be diverted.
VVIP visitors will enter Central Shaheed Minar premises using the Matsya Bhaban – Doyel Chattar – Gymnasium – Romana Chattar route to pay homage to the Language Martyrs while mass people will have to use Palashi intersection -Jagannath Hall route.
Asked, the Commissioner said they have no information of any possible militant attacks or subversive activities. But they are prepared to face any kind of untoward incidents.
Besides, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General Banazir Ahmed said the elite force will arrange the possible highest security for celebrating the Mother Language Day.
 “RAB foot patrol, Mobile patrol and observation post teams and detectives to be deployed on the Shaheed Minar Mancha and its adjacent areas, the DG told the reporters after inspection of the security arrangement on Shaheed Minar premises on Tuesday.
