4-tier security ahead of Ekushey, says DMP Chief

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah on Monday said that four-tier security measures would be taken in and around the Central Shaheed Minar the International Mother Language Day on February 21.
“Apparently there are no threats. We have taken highest security measures to ensure peaceful observance of Amar Ekushey.”
Speaking on the Central Shaheed Minar premises, adjacent to Dhaka University Campus, he said the entire area would be under the supervision of CCTV and there will be four tiers of security in place.
Police will restrict movement inside Dhaka University campus from 6:00pm onwards, February 20, ahead of the Amar Ekushey. Entry points to the campus will be sealed for outsiders. The visitors will have to cross multiple archways and checkpoints to enter the premises, he said.
Other than DU students, teachers and staff members, no other vehicles or persons would be able to enter the campus area from 6:00pm onwards, police commissioner said. Only vehicles with some DU stickers will be allowed to enter.
VVIP visitors will enter Central Shaheed Minar premises using the Matsya Bhaban – Doyel Chattar – Gymnesium – Romana Chattar route to pay homage to the language martyrs. Palashi intersection will be reserved for the VVIP visitors to pay homage.
The Central Shaheed Minar will be opened for all after 12.30 pm on February 21 and the people from all strata of life will be allowed to enter the venue through Palashi intersection -Jagannath Hall route, according to him.
No passenger vehicles will be allowed on the Science Laboratory-Nilkhet, Fulbaria crossing-Chankharpool, and Kataban-Nilkhet, routes since 5:00am on February 21 for Probhat Feri (Morning walk).
However, Dhaka University’s ‘Central Coordination Committee for Observing Amar Ekushey’ has drawn up a route map for the people who will come to Central Shaheed Minar and Azimpur Graveyard on February 21 to pay tribute to the martyrs of language movement. The route map will come into effect from 7:00pm on February 20, said a press release issued on Sunday.
