Some four shops were gutted when a big fire broke out in Shahid Bazar, a village market situated in the village Putikhali under Morrelganj in Bagerhat district at Friday night, according to a report received here.
It is learnt from the locals that at the night the fire originated from one of the shops due to an electricity short circuit spread to its adjacent shops and it went out of control within moments.
On information, one fire service unit from Bagerhat district headquarters and another from Morrelganj Upazila headquarters rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control with the help of the locals after a long fighting for more than one hour.
In spite of that a cloth shop belonging to one Najina Begum and a shoe shop belonging to her son Rakib Shikdar were completely gutted while a medicine shop belonging to one Anwar Hawladar and a cycle garage belonging to one Shahidul Hawladar were partially gutted.
The loss of fire was estimated at Tk.7 lakh after a primary assessment.
