A court here on Monday sentenced two individuals to death over the murder of their friend in the hilly area at Chittagong University campus in 2012.
The convicts were identified as Ali Azam and Mohammad Alam. They also were fined Tk 10,000 each.
The judge acquitted Naimul Islam Rakib and Mohammad Naser as charges against them could not be proven.
According to prosecution, Akhtar Hossain, son of Khalil Ahmad of Kulgaon area under Bayazid Bostami Police Station was taken to Hilly area at Chittagong University and killed by his friends for siphoning the proceeds from a CNG auto-rickshaw sale they were meant to share on September 4, 2012.
Soon after the murder, Rafiq, brother of missing Akhter Hossain, filed a case with Hathazari Police Station against four people on September 15.
Later, police arrested the accused Azam and Alam over the murder and they gave confessional statements before the court.
However, police recovered Akhter’s body from the behind fisheries faculty of Chittagong University on the basis of their statement. After examining records and witnesses, Chattogram Additional District and Session Judge Ferdous Ara handed down the verdict at noon.
Another reports adds: A court in Chittagong on Monday sentenced two persons to death for killing a man in Hathazari upazila in 2012.
Judge Ferdous Ara of Additional Disrtrict and Sessions Judge’s Court 7 yesterday passed the order after scrutinising all facts and evidences. The convicts are Ali Azam, 25, and Mohammad Alam, 24, said Additional Public Prosecutor Delwar Hossain.
According to the case records, the duo snatched Tk 2,90,000 from Akhter, a CNG-run autorickshaw driver, killed him and dumped his body in the bush.
